Excellently drawn and executed.  I saw this fine little film when it came out around 1986, and  always liked it - and how Marcello Mastroiani's personality draws out Jack Lemmon's long dormant finer qualities.  But most people have pobably forgotten it.  Actually, while it is the only film the two actor's ever made together, they nearly made a second one.  After the success of "Grumpy Old Men" and it's sequel "Grumpier Old Men" there  were plans for a third film that never was made.  If you saw "Grumpier Old Men", Walter Matthau ends up marrying Sophia Loren (who in the film had opened an Italian restaurant in the Minnesota town the stories occur in).  Earlier in that film, Loren and her mother (Anne-Marie Guilbert) are arguing about Loren's failures with her choice in men culminating in one disastrous marriage which was her last - an ended in divorce.  Her previous husband (who was someting of a gad-a-bout type) is named "Marcello".  In the third film (had it been made).  Loren and Matthau would have been honeymooning in Italy when "Marcello" shows up to put the bite on them - it seems his divorce never went completely through.  "Marcello" was to be played by Mastroiani.  Lemmon and his movie wife (Ann-Margaret) were to be in Italy later to join Matthau and Loren.
